I ruined my reputation at Euro 2012, say Nasri

Africtv - Mail Summary...
  • The France international says he regrets his "careless" behaviour at the tournament but says his Bleus team-mates are eager to redeem themselves at this summer's World Cup.
  • Samir Nasri has admitted that his outburst towards the media in the wake of France's Euro 2012 exit ruined his reputation.
Africtv - Mail Sports... Report
The Manchester City midfielder reacted angrily after being questioned about his nation's 2-0 loss to France and was slapped with a three-match interantional ban.

The 26-year-old has admitted that his actions were unwise but insisted that they were down to his inexperience at the time.

"When you're young, you're careless.
You think you know everything," he told RMC.

"Because we know what we did and that it was not the right one.
It's not the 23 who are selected, it's for the 65 million [in France].

"I have regrets over what happened at Euro 2012. This isn't how I was brought up.
I sullied my own name and that of my parents too. I didn't honour the shirt.

"So, of course I have regrets. I'll be 27 soon.
I think I have wasted enough time and I have to reach my potential."

Nasri is adamant that France turned a corner by overturning a 2-0 first-leg deficit to reach the World Cup by beating Ukraine in the play-off round.

"The group responded after the defeat in Ukraine.
It showed a strength of character. We had a common desire to do something.

"You should see the reactions of the people who didn't participate in the second leg but were behind their team-mates. In past competitions, this was not the case.

"With this mindset, we can do something.
We want to redeem ourselves and show the love for the jersey and everyone who has supported us over the years."
