
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has petitioned the acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, and the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, among others, seeking intervention on the attack on Mojeed Alabi, a journalist with New Telegraph newspaper, by thugs allegedly loyal to a politician (names withheld) in Osun State.
A copy of the petition, made available to newsmen and signed by chairman of Lagos State chapter of the human rights group, Mr. Buna Isiak, accused the lawmaker, who is a member of the House of Representatives, of being behind the attack.
According to CDHR, the lawmaker had on October 2, threatened to deal with Alabi for portraying him in bad light in an investigative report published in New Telegraph on September 15, entitled Osun: Streams of Dead Projects.
The petition further stated that Alabi was stabbed on October 5, while at an event at Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government Area by a gang on the order of the lawmaker.
The CDHR prayed the IG and relevant authorities; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; National Human Rights Commission, office of Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, AIG Zone 11 in Osogbo, Osun State and Osun State Commissioner of Police, among others, to inestigate the matter.
