Edo State Police Command, Wednesday, arrested a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the state over alleged involvement in the invasion of the state House of Assembly quarters last month.
State Commissioner of Police, Funso Adebanjo, told Afric TV that the suspect, who he described as the key suspect, was arrested Wednesday and charged to Oredo Magistrate’s Court for alleged illegal possession of fire arms and other offences.
It would be recalled that the police had been on the trail of the PDP leader, who escaped after the attack at the Assembly quarters.
Adebanjo said: “He was arrested on Wednesday and we have charged him to court immediately. Like I warned earlier, anybody caught fomenting trouble in this state will not go scot free, no matter his status in the society.
“Politicians must learn to play the game by the rules and not engage in killings due to their selfish ambition.
“I have told all of them that I will not spare anyone arrested. Parents must also counsel their children against being used as political thugs.
“Our people must learn. If they ask you to go and carry gun and kill, tell them to send their children, not you.
“I am going to organize a seminar before the elections so experts will come and lecture all of us on how this politics should be played. We want a peaceful society and politicians must not disturb our peace.”
