New minimum wage: Lawan Pleads NLC to stop all plans of strike over delay
According to LEGIT REPORTS, The Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday,has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to cancel all plans of strike action on the delayed implementation of N30,000 minimum wage.
The Senate president said the country cannot bear such industrial strike action as he appealed to the leaders of the congress, The Nation reports.
Lawan also apologized to the executives of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) during their visit. Senate President Lawan asked the leaders of NLC and PASAN to show patriotism and understanding, saying some states have already commenced paying the new minimum wage. He said: “We should not encourage personal issue to overshadow our collective responsibility to nation-building. “We will journey with you to ensure absolute implementation of the minimum wage by the Federal government.” Lawan also asked PASAN to work with the National Assembly and urged them to avoid strike action as a means of getting their demands.
