The Joint Task Force, JTF, code named Operation Pulo Shield, has embarked on non-combatant approach in its effort to tackle crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
The approach, Afric TV learned, involved engaging the youths, elders and traditional heads of affected communities in the campaign against oil theft.
Outgoing spokesman of the JTF, Col. Mustapha Anka, in an interview in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on the activities of the command in the outgoing year, said: “The command has embarked on confidence building patrols to dissuade the youths and community from involving in illegal oil bunkering and other criminalities in the region.
“As part of its cooperate social responsibility, the task force also embarked on a free medical rhapsody at Akenpai and Igbomatoru in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. Also, a bore hole was sunk to alleviate the suffering of the community in their need for potable water.”
Commending the strategy adopted by the task force, he said: “It is indeed worthy to note that Nigeria Agip Oil Company, NAOC, recently acknowledged an increase in production due to the command’s aggressive day and night patrols.”
