Barely a week after a medical doctor of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo, died mysteriously in a fire incident in Akure, Ondo State, another doctor of the hospital, Muyiwa Alonge, has escaped death as gunmen invaded his house.
Afric Tv gathered that the gunmen broke into his home in Aule, in Akure metropolis, on Christmas day.
It will be recalled that Dr. David Oguntuase, a Paediatrician, died in a mysterious fire incident that gutted his private hospital in Akure.
His family and professional colleagues in the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, had alleged that he was assassinated before his clinic was torched by his assailants.
Speaking with newsmen in Akure, Dr. Alonge said that his attackers broke down his door, brandishing dangerous weapons and threatened to kill him.
He said: “They actually did not ask for anything. They said they came to kill me. For over 30 minutes, I pleaded with them and prayed, and somehow they changed their minds.”
Alonge said he was hit with a metal and manhandled in the presence of his wife and children.
He said: “I can only say that I escaped with my life through the help of God. They came at about 2a.m. They were two that came in and we suspected that there were others waiting outside. The gunmen eventually went away with my computers, money and phones.”
Contacted, the Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, said the matter had not been brought to his attention. He promised to get across to this reporter as soon as the signal was forwarded to his office.
