It has been learnt that Boko Haram insurgents are shifting their operational base from Gwoza to Bama, located close to Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Nation reports that some local hunters and vigilantes saw the terrorists relocating their equipment and weapons.
The insurgents were seen on motorcycles and in Hilux trucks.
As soon as the news broke out, speculations emerged that Boko Haram militants want to launch onslaughts on the state capital and seize it.
According to Muhammed Abbas Gava, a spokesman of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Boko Haram presence in Bama is becoming more noticeable day by day.
“Some of the residents of Bama that fled into Maiduguri said they saw and recognised Bakura, who used to be a corn merchant at the popular Baga Park market before he disappeared some years back to join the Boko Haram.”
It would be recalled that Bama was among the towns captured earlier this year by Boko Haram insurgents, who launched massive attacks on numerous towns in the North-East.
Following the move the Nigerian military deployed country’s warplanes to carry out strikes in the town and to protect Maiduguri from the insurgents.
