Not less than 120 persons have been killed in road accidents across the country during the 2014 festive season between December 19 and 28, 2014 Daily Trust reports.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) disclosed that the figures translated as 42 percent reduction when compared to last year’s figure of 208, within the same period.
Imoh Etuk, the Corps Public Education Officer, disclosed this while presenting an update on the Corps’ activities during this year’s festive season.
According to him, the FRSC also recorded 48 percent reduction in the number of road traffic accidents within this period, which stood at 193, as against 368 road accidents in 2013.
Also, 53 percent was recorded in injuries in 2014 with 733 injured persons as against the 2013 figure of 1,564, he said.
In the same vein, the 2014 figure of 193 road traffic crashes comprised of 62 fatal, 115 serious and 15 minor reported cases while the 2013 figure of 368 comprised of 113 fatal, 225 serious and 30 minor reported cases of road traffic crashes recorded.
Meanwhile, FRSC has arraigned 1,073 traffic offenders out of 9,858 arrested for contravening 10,876 traffic-related offences during the festive season.
