The Osun State Police Command has arrested five armed robbery suspects in the state. One of the suspects is a 28 year old Michael Johnson, who was arrested in Osogbo on October 4th.
Johnson, who was paraded by the police in Osogbo on Thursday was was said to have snatched a Renault space wagon with number plate KTS 16AA in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
The officials of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Osun State were however said to have spotted the car where it was parked at one of eateries in Osogbo.
The suspect was arrested alongside a 23 year old lady (name witheld) but he was said to have absorbed the lady of culpability in the crime, saying he just picked her along the road.
Further investigation by the police yielded positive result as Johnson led the police to where he allegedly kept other stolen items.
The police recovered the Renault car, one Peugeot 406 with number plate (Abuja) ABC 873 AU and a Nissan Serena CQ 652 LSR.
Other items recovered from him are, 10 various car keys, six laptop computers, nine different handsets, two sonny cameras, and jewelries.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, who spoke to journalists while parading Johnson and others suspects arrested for other crimes said that the command received an information from the police in Akwa Ibom State that the snatched vehicles was heading for Osun State.
She added that the tight security put up in Osun State prevented the suspect from coming to the state but diverted to Kwara State.
The PPRO said, “Special Anti Robbery Squad patrol team and other patrol teams within Osogbo metro swung into action and moved immediately to the area where the vehicle was recovered with two suspects arrested; namely Johnson Michael (28) and Ajilore Iyanu female (23). During the course of investigation, Johnson Michael confessed to the crime and denied involvement of the female suspect. He said the lady is woman of easy virtue and that he picked her along the road.”
Odoro said that the police were making efforts to arrest other members of his gang.
