The remaining lawmaker, Mr. Gbenga Edema, repre-senting Ilaje constituency II, said he was still consulting on his next line of action.
Twenty six members make up the Assembly with only one, Mr. Lubi Akpoebi, elected on the platform of PDP.
The 23 members, in a letter read on the floor of the house, said they decided to leave LP after meeting with relevant stakeholders in their areas.
According to the letter addressed to the Speaker, the lawmakers said they were no more comfortable with developments in LP.
It read in part: “We the underlisted honourable members, having met with relevant stakeholders in our various constituencies, have decided to decamp from Labour Party to People’s Democratic Party.
“This is because we are not very comfortable with legion of litigation pending before various courts across the nation at the instance of members of Labour Party, which are already igniting crisis in the party.
“As a matter of fact, Labour Party is already factionalised and totally polarised because of the aforementioned reasons.
“Consequently, we prefer to key into the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. This we believe will definitely be to the betterment of our various constituencies.”
The Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, while reacting to the letter, said following the decision to dump LP, the natural place for many of them was PDP as most of them were from PDP.
Akindele said: “LP was like a small pot with many spoons. “With the movement to PDP, the members now have a wider platform to operate.”
