The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a woman, Ms. Patience Aaron, for attempting to kill her baby girl.
It was learnt that Aaron, an indigene of Afaha Abia village, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state, on October 14, buried her one day baby in a shallow grave.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, said during a press conference in Uyo on Thursday that the baby was rescued alive nearly five hours after she had been buried.
“The state police detective, on October 14, 2014, arrested one Patience Sunday Aaron of Afaha Abia village in Nsit Ibom LGA for attempting to kill the baby girl she gave birth to.
“Patience did bury her one day baby in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive. Investigation is in progress,” he said.
The CP, however, stated that Aaron had been ill and was in the hospital.
Arrested also are 36 others for various offences ranging from murder to foiled armed robbery. N8.9m was also recovered between the months of August and September.
Among those arrested are Mr. Kufreobong Anwana 18, over possession of improvised explosive devices in M2 hostel of the University of Uyo; Udo Effiong,15, from Ekpene Ukim village in Uruan for stealing two solar batteries and a panel; Mr. Andre Moses, a driver with Union Bank Plc, Lagos for absconding with his boss’ Hyundai jeep with Reg. No. AKD 381 CY, to Oron, and confessed to selling the vehicle to a Ghanaian in Port Harcourt.
Achong said the police also rescued stolen children who are Goodness Sunday, two years and six months old stolen at Ikot Uso Ekong; David Eyo, nine years old stolen at Mbiakong Uruan; Edikan Sunda, two years and six months, taken away by gunmen; Gift Joshua, 13 years old; and a day old baby.
According to Achong, the police on August 25, arrested a manager of a telecommunication company in Ikot Ekpene with one of his drivers while lodging N8.9m in the bank.
He added that the hoodlums operating on a motorbike trailed them, shot the driver of the vehicle and dispossessed them of the money. The hoodlums were rounded up and the money recovered for the owner.
