The Borno State Police Command yesterday arrested four suspects for alleged murder and rape in Maiduguri metropolis, even as it warned criminally minded individuals who engaged in nefarious activities to desist and turn a new leaf or face full wrath of law.
Parading the suspects yesterday at the Police Command Headquarters Maiduguri, the new Police Commissioner, Adoda Clement disclosed that after arresting the suspects in May, August and this month, they all confessed to their alleged murder and rape cases, including the slain of an Immigration Officer, Stephen Musa Bassi in Pompamari ward of Maiduguri metropolis.
His words: “A case of culpable homicide was reported at Ibrahim Taiwo Estate Division and transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, over the gruesome murder of an Immigration officer; Stephen Musa Bassi of Pompomari ward Maiduguri. The diseased was killed by two POP decoration contractors he hired to work in his house.
“After the dastardly act, the duo buried him within the compound premises before escaping to unknown destination.”
He said after investigations by the police with intelligence gathering, Abdulraham Iliyasu (24) was arrested in Kano on August 22, 2014, while the other suspect remained at large.
The second murder suspect, Bajoga Bello, according to the police chief, killed one Abdullahi Saidu at Bantine village in Biu council area of Borno state over non-payment of N200 debt, while the rape cases were committed by Idris Ali of Moduganari ward and Bana Kyari of Bolori ward of Maiduguri.
“Ali after being interrogated for the alleged crime, confessed raping his 10-year old daughter, while Kyari also confessed raping a three-year old girl in the Bolori Layout of the metropolis on August 29, 2014,” said Clement.
