I left prison 4 months ago, says arrested car thief

Thirty eight years old Faruk kept shaking his head intermittently, saying “I never wanted to go with them. If I had listened to my instinct, I would not have been involved.

“It means I am returning to prison where I spent seven years. I was released just four months ago, with a promise to turn a new leaf.”

He is one of the two suspected members of a robbery gang arrested in Mushin area of Lagos, with a stolen Honda Salon car.

While being paraded yesterday, the suspects told newsmen that they snatched the car in Morroco Street, in Alade area of Yaba, while its owner was making love with a woman inside.

The Command also revealed that it had foiled 34 robbery incidents with 44 robbery suspects arrested between August 1 and September 15.

Eight robbery suspects, according to the Command’s boss, Kayode Aderanti, were killed during cross fire with the Police, while 20 arms and 282 live ammunition were recovered within the period under review.

Speaking on the command’s recent achievement since he assumed office, Aderanti stated that he received information on the suspicious movement of a Honda saloon car with number plate NH 293 AAA within Mushin area of Lagos, Monday.

Acting on his directive, Officer in-Charge of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Abba Kyari, reportedly deployed three decoy teams, which accosted the car at Daleko roundabout, Mushin.

He said: “Two armed robbers, named Babatunde Makinde and Faruk Lawal, were arrested. A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of one double barrel pistol, two single barrel pistols and 28 live cartridges.

“The suspects confessed to have snatched the vehicle from its owner at gunpoint in Alade area of Yaba few hours before they were arrested and that the third gun belongs to one Dayo, a member of their gang who narrowly escaped arrest.

“Investigation is still ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing gang members.”

Aderanti also revealed that 34 suspected kidnappers were arrested, while 44 stolen vehicles were recovered.

Most of the recovered vehicles, according to him, were discovered to have been stolen from other states of the federation, even as he expressed happiness that none of his men died during the encounters.
