BREAKING: Sen. Lawan Unveils Date National Assembly Will Pass 2020 Budget
According to Naija news Reports, Ahmed Lawan, The Senate President has Recently revealed that the National Assembly will pass the 2020 Appropriation Bill of N10.33 trillion in December, 2019.
Lawan, who is the Chairman of the National Assembly, made this known at the two-day Joint National Budget Hearing on the 2020 Appropriation Bill on Wednesday.
Naija News recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari presented the N10.33 trillion budget proposal to a joint session of the national assembly, while urging the legislators to change the present budget cycle to January-December.
President Buhari while presenting the Budget 2020 on October 8, described it as a “budget of sustainability,” a description which was questioned by the Minority Leader of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Speaking at the Joint National Budget Hearing, Lawan said the legislative arm of government will pass the 2020 budget before its Christmas break.
He said: “We have set between the two chambers; and we have resolved that this time around, we must pass this budget before the end of Dec.
“We are hopeful that the budget will be passed before we go on Christmas break by God’s grace.
“And of course, I am glad to say that President Buhari had shown commitment to what the national assembly desires.
“This was seen when the government issued a statement asking ministers and heads of agencies not to travel without defending their budget; that is a total commitment to what we desire in the national assembly.”
