Just-in: 55 Nigerians Allegedly Arrested over trying to Escape at 'SEME Border'
According to Daily advent Reports, Over 55 Nigerians and 15 other foreigners has been confirmed arrested as illegal migrants at the ongoing security exercise tagged Operation ex-Swift Response. The operation is aimed at securing the country’s borders.
According to The Sun, the affected people were apprehended while attempting to cross Seme and Cotonu borders. They were repatriated by security personnel stationed at Nigeria’s Seme border.
It was reporterd that at least 50 Nigerians attempted to cross the border through the bush to a neighbouring country. They had no documents, report says while 15 foreigners trying to enter Nigeria were clamped down by the men in uniform.
One of the security officers who doesn’t want to be mentioned said the 15 foreigners are of different African nationalities but they could not travel through the approved border route because none of them had the travelling document and trying to enter the country illegally.
It was also gathered that illegal migrants were arrested and after taking their records, were repatriated with a warning that another attempt at unlawful entry into the country could lead to dire consequences as provided by law.
