NYSC in reaction to the reports that the scheme had been scrapped, insisted that there was no truth in the report, announcing that the Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) Orientation course would soon commence.
The federal government has denied scrapping the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In a statement issued on Sunday by The federal government on NYSC’s Facebook page, Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant of the president on media and publicity, said: “NYSC is a creation of the law. Only another law can repeal it”.
There were reports that the scheme, which had been established since 1975 by the Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd), was scrapped by President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside post-UTME.
However, the presidency described the story as unfounded and legally illogical.
