Afric TV - Newsmail Report...

The seven aggrieved governors and members of the New Peoples Democratic Party met in Abuja on Sunday night and demanded that Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola should be allowed to resume  duty as the national secretary of the PDP.

The meeting, which took place at the Kano State Governors’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja  started around 7pm  and ended  about  12.09am.

Among the governors in attendance were   Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); Aliyu Wamakko(Sokoto); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Babangida Aliyu(Niger); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); and Musa Kwakwanso(Kano).

The deputy governor of Jigawa State  represented Governor Sule Lamido at the meeting.

Also in attendance were the National Chairman of the New PDP, Abubakar  Baraje;  Oyinlola; a former Governor of Gombe State, Sen. Danjuma Goje;  and a former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Segun Oni.

A  former Governor of Kwara State, Sen. Bukoka Saraki, ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipreye  Sylva; and a  former Governor of Nasarawa State, Sen. Abdulahi Adamu, were also present.

Our correspondent gathered that the meeting discussed the Court of Appeal judgement, which reinstated Oyinlola, a former Osun State governor,  as the national secretary of the PDP.

Aliyu, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said that they resolved that  Oyinlola must be allowed to resume immediately.

He said, “We thank Allah for what he has done by vindicating through the court, the position of the Secretary General of the  PDP.

“We are very happy with what has happened and the  national secretary   will resume his office appropriately after all due processes have been covered.

“And we think it is a vindication of what has been transpiring because all along, the issues were issues of due process and   reform.  We are happy that that the court has done this for us.

“So we look forward to   the  resolution of the  matter. There is a court judgment that  must be given to the PDP secretariat and immediately it is  given, he resumes. If by tomorrow(today) the court judgment is ready, he will  resume .”

On whether  President Goodluck Jonathan    has again invited them for a meeting, he replied,  “The onus is now on the President. We are waiting for  his  invitation.”

But he said that  the judgment that returned Oyinlola to his position should be seen as a positive development that would help fast- track reconciliation in the party.

“As far as I am concerned, we should look at it (the judgment) as more positive or rather, a plus for the resolution of the matter,” he added.

The New PDP  National Publicity Secretary, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, had said on Sunday that Jonathan and the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP would receive the court order on Monday (today).

He said, “I was told that the Presidency is claiming that it has yet to be served the appeal court judgment  reinstating Oyinlola as the national secretary of our party.

“In this regard, the Presidency will be duly served   tomorrow (Monday) accordingly as we expect him  to direct Bamanga Tukur and others to work and ensure that Oyinlola succeeds in his divine mission to restore unity, dignity and honour back to our party.

When contacted, Oyinlola’s counsel, Awa Kalu (SAN), said the PDP was aware of the appeal court  judgment.

He said, “They were in court when the judgment was delivered. They have the notice and  that is the point. It is in the newspaper when Prof. Wale Oladipo said he won’t quit as the national secretary of the PDP. How can you say you will not quit if you are not aware of the judgment?

“In any case, they  have  served their  notice of appeal on my office.”
