Cross River State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has advised aspirants for political offices in the state to eschew violence or face disqualification.
State chairman of the party, Ntufam John, who spoke during the official declaration of a gubernatorial aspirant, Fidelis Ugbo, warned aspirants that the party would not tolerate any form of violence either from them or their supporters, threatening that anyone found wanting would face outright disqualification.
John said: “Any candidate or his supporters found to be violent will be disqualified. Decorum must be upheld and all aspirants should eschew violence and warn their supporters to do the same.
“PDP is a disciplined party and as Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the timetable, we are working according to the provided guidelines.
“We have been able to maintain internal democracy because we believe that democracy must also be internalised, which was why we had earlier established wards in various local governments across the state.”
Speaking with after his declaration, Ugbo said: “The main thrust of our administration will be to ensure we grow and strengthen our agriculture by modernising it and making it more productive because majority of our people are farmers.
“We do not have big industries in Cross River State; we need to look at how to grow our small and medium scale enterprises so that our young men and women can be self-employed and invariably become employers of other people.”
