The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday reacted to the statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it will not attend the planned national conference, stating that the party has nothing to offer to better the lots of Nigerians. It further clarified that the national conference was not a conference of political parties, but of all Nigerians.
The party also announced the composition of a national campaign committee for the Anambra State governorship elections slated for November 16 with Vice-President Namadi Sambo as the chairman.
PDP also denied that it was not into any alliance with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on the governorship election.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, said: “Let me restate that the national conference is not a conference of political parties, it is a conference of all Nigerians. If a particular political party believes that it has nothing to offer there is nothing we can do about it.
“If they don't have people, no ideas to offer about full integration of the country, we can't help. Nigerians have already noted that this particular political party believes in disintegration and sowing seed of discord is the best way to sell and promote their party.
“They have been promoting division in the country. So, what else can they offer when it comes to national dialogue? There is absolutely nothing that they can offer Nigerians, except promotion of ethnic division and hatred."
The PDP spokesman said the party would take the initiative and participate fully in the planned national conference in the overall good of all Nigerians.
In a related development, Metuh has announced the composition of the national campaign committee of the party for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State. The national campaign committee is headed by Sambo with the National Legal Adviser of the party, Victor Kwom, as the secretary.

Other members of the campaign committee include the Chief of Staff to the President, Political Adviser to the President, Political Adviser to the Vice-President, the ministers.
Meanwhile, Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, has approved the appointment of a 32-member committee headed by the former Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir, to represent the state at the proposed national conference, saying the state was ready for the dialogue.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Malam Sani Umar.
The statement said the committee had been mandated to consult various stakeholders and the people of the state with a view to collating and evaluating their opinions.
It emphasised that after collating the views of the people, the committee would submit a memorandum on their behalf to the federal government's committee based on its terms of reference.
The statement pointed out that the committee would also advise the state government on all issues relating to the proposed conference.
