BREAKING: Boko Haram In Clash with Army Troops As they Try To Raid Borno
According to Reports, Some Members of The terrorist group, Boko Haram have Recently attacked Damboa, the headquarters of a local government area in Borno State.
The insurgents arrived the community in large numbers and Hilux vehicles around 6:30 am on Wednesday and started shooting sporadically, some villagers narrated.
“They came in plenty of hilux trucks. We saw about 20 before we started running towards the bush.”
“They came in two batches. One came in through the north Sambisa and the other from Alagaruno”, one of the fleeing residents told TheCable.
It was further gathered that the terrorists met stiff opposition from the Nigerian Army troops who engaged them in a gun battle for about one hour.
“Soldiers from the 25 task force came in about 30 minutes and right now, over an hour, they are still exchanging gunshots with the insurgents,” the source said.
Naija News, however, understands the Boko Haram fighters had already stolen large quantities of food items from the villagers before troops of the 117 task force battalion in Chibok arrived to repel them.
A soldier from the battalion confirmed that troops have already reclaimed the area with the assistance of fighter jets from the air force.
“A fighter jet has been sent from the theatre command in Maiduguri,” he said.
“So now we have air support, and we are pushing the enemies out of the place and securing the area. Some of them are still within but we have now outnumbered their forces.”
As at the time the report was filed, Sagir Musa, Army spokesman could however not be reached for comments.
