FG slashes port charges by 20%

IN a bid to stop Nigeria-bound cargoes from being diverted to ports of neighbouring countries, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, yesterday slashed charges by as much as 20 percent.

This is the first time the Nigerian Shippers’ Council is stamping its authority as the economic regulator of the ports.

Parents of late bus conductor, LASTMA trade blames

Controversy is currently trailing the death of Ikechukwu Abasirim, the 36-year-old bus conductor allegedly crushed to death by officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Monday, along Oshodi-Apapa expressway, Lagos, as LASTMA has exonerated its men of culpability.

It clarified that policemen attached to the agency, who were chasing a commercial bus driver over a traffic offence, were responsible for the tragedy.

Synagogue: Pathologists conclude DNA tests in two weeks

The Lagos State Chief Forensic Pathologist, Prof. John Obafunwa, has said that his team would conclude the DNA analysis of the 116 persons that died in the September 12 Synagogue building collapse in “two weeks time.”

Obafunwa stated this on Tuesday while presenting his team’s preliminary report to the coroner probing the cause of the collapse of a guest house within the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos.

10 people died from road accidents in Osun

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Osun says 10 persons died from road accidents in the state in September.

Mr Muhammad Husaini, the state Sector Commander of FRSC, disclosed this in Osogbo on Tuesday.

B'Haram gives list of detained commanders to FG

Strong indication emerged on Monday that the representatives of the Boko Haram involved in the on-going negotiation have submitted ‘a specific list’ of detained commanders the sect would want swapped for the Chibok girls to the Federal Government team on Monday.

A security source, who confided in one of our correspondents, said that the security agencies had also started a process of verifying the status of those in the list.

The verification is meant to ascertain the state of health of the Boko Haram members.

Mayhem, as LASTMA van crushes bus conductor in Lagos

A 44-year-old bus conductor was allegedly crushed to death by a vehicle belonging to officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, yesterday, at Cele Bus Stop, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, while the bus driver was avoiding arrest.

Nigeria needs $5bn to sustain economic stability, says Okonjo-Iweala

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said yesterday that for Nigeria to sustain stability of its economy, it has to raise its excess crude account, which currently stands at $4.1 billion to $5 billion.
