The command also said it had recovered 8,756 litres of petroleum products allegedly siphoned from
the pipelines of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The state NSCDC Commandant, Akinwande Aboluwoye, stated this during the parade of the suspects and the items recovered from them.
The suspects are Muritala Ogunlesi, 35; Mutiu Ademola, 34; Yesiru Balogun, 50; Fadeyi Idowu, 22 and Musiliu Oyefeso, 37.
The suspects, however, denied the allegations, insisting they were innocent.
Aboluwoye explained that the feat was recorded as a result of the surveillance mounted by the anti-vandals unit of the NSCDC for three weeks in the area.
He said the illegal petroleum products were contained in about 80 jerry cans of 50kg, 49 jerry cans of 25 kg and 11 drums.
Other items recovered from the suspects were four mobile phones and tools allegedly used to siphon the fuel.
He said:“The breakthrough was through the help of God and the surveillance of the anti-vandals unit. It’s an exercise we’ve been monitoring for the past three weeks.
“The intelligence officers and the anti-vandals unit have been doing their work and we were able to get adequate information that led to this arrest.”
Aboluwoye stated that the suspects would be charged to court on completion of preliminary investigation by the command.
