THE South South Liberation Movement, SSLM, has called on the incoming government of Genaral Muhammadu Buhari, to enter into fresh agreement with oil companies operating in the Niger Delta on how to develop the region.
The group, in a statement by its national coordinator, Mr John Adie, said that under the outgoing government of President Goodluck Jonathan, oil companies are lords paying to government what they wanted.
The group, in a statement by its national coordinator, Mr John Adie, said that under the outgoing government of President Goodluck Jonathan, oil companies are lords paying to government what they wanted.
He said: “For instance, the Federal Government takes whatever amount is given to it by the oil companies without ascertaining the correct revenue that is supposed to accrue from the companies. The under reporting of oil production by oil companies is suffocating the nation’s economy. Buhari’s government should quickly correct the anomaly for the economy to grow.”
SSLM maintained that the new government might not be able to make much progress unless it identified the cabal, both within and outside the oil industry that is milking the country dry.
