Ndigbo Warns NASS Against Plot To Impeach Jonathan

Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN) has warned members of the National Assembly against the purported plot to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan from office.

The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, in a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by its national president, Udo Udogaranya, advised the senators nursing such plans to thread with caution, especially as national interest must override their selfish gains at all times.

The group said the proponents of the impeachment threat must also remember that every severe action must also attract severe reaction.

“President Jonathan comes from a bloc that waged war for three years with bare hands against an international conspiracy that backed the Federal Government forces and even at that finally resorted to unspeakable measures to stop the war, and these measures are no longer applicable,” the group said.

The Igbo group said it called on members of the National Assembly to stop over-heating the polity for the sake of the masses that bear the brunt of any national crisis, be it a failed state, disintegration or war.

Meanwhile, the leader of the South South Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Sunday Ekanem, had also threatened the All Progressive Congress (APC) that there would be crisis in the polity if the plan orchestrated to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan scales through.

It would be recalled that some senators of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, threatened to impeach President Jonathan for working against their political interests in their various states.
When the plot to impeach the President filtered into the Senate, a growing number of lawmakers were said to have ganged up with the Reps to get the President removed after  130 Reps signed in favour of the plot on Thursday, November 20, 2014.

However, Ohaneze Nidigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group on November 10, 2014, reportedly rejected the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan to re-run for second term in the country’s number one office in 2015.
