B'Haram kills 10, abducts two in Borno village

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorists yesterday waylaid motorists in Madari village, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing 10 people, and kidnapping a young woman with her two- year old child.

A driver, Mallam Abor Modu, who narrowly escaped being killed said that he was returning from Cross Kawa at about 2.30 pm, Monday with his passengers when they met the terrorists who were in 10 vehicles including an LX 470 Jeep, killing other motorists plying the Maiduguri- Baga road in Madari.

He said “I had to stop with five of my passengers when I saw a Chadian resembling a Boko Haram terrorist in a Toyota Hilux vehicle mounted with a Multi Purpose Machine gun. He said the Chadian was shooting sporadically at any vehicle that came across.

“One of the terrorists approached me and asked where I was coming from? I told him that I was coming form Cross Kauwa and he asked me again where I hail from? I told him that I come from Yusufari and he further asked me where my passengers came from and I told him they were going to Bindari.

‘’Then he left. After some time one of them came again and asked what I was doing? I told him I am supplicating he too left again.

‘’While I was still supplicating, I saw them killing a driver of a Peugeot Station Wagon vehicle and five of his passengers. They later abducted a young woman and her two- year old child. When a Mercedes Benz driver came with speed, they opened fire on them killing all the occupants of the vehicle. When the driver of a Hummer bus came with his passengers, he was lucky to have escaped, as they were opening fire on him as he succeeded in making a U- turn but some of his passengers alighted from the bus and ran into the bush,” Mallam Abor said.

According to him, after sometimes another Chadian who was also terrorist and some Kanuri speaking ones said, ‘’we have got enough vehicles, let us go. They then asked me to go with my passengers. They went towards Kukawa in convoy of about 15 vehicles.’’

Efforts to speak with the Borno State Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, DSP Gideon Jibrin over the issue proved abortive, as his telephone lines were switched off as at the time of going to press.
